Join us for a full day of hands-on hedge-laying to learn all the practical skills and techniques involved in hedge-laying, as well as the history of why it’s done here at Woodlands Farm. Throughout the day, the course will cover:

1. Ground Preparation – how to clear sites and select for suitable growth.
2. The Art of Pleaching – how to slice stems precisely to preserve them in their natural, live, supple and bendable state.
3. Traditional Tool Mastery – how to safely handle billhooks, pruning saws and axes.
4. Staking & Hazel Binding – how to secure upright stakes and weave hazel binders.

This is a one-day course running from 8.00am - 4pm on the following dates:
November 21st 2026, January 16th 2027, February 20th 2027 and March 20th 2027.

*All equipment will be provided (billhooks, axes, pruning saws, safety gauntlets and eye protection).
*Please wear suitable clothing (layers and waterproofs) and sturdy work boots or wellies. Protective steel toe-caps are strongly advised.
*Please also bring a packed lunch.

The course is £90 per person.
