The London Assembly Transport Committee have said that the decision that stops specialist engineers from having blue lights to get to emergency situations should be reversed.

TfL’s London Emergency Response Vehicles had use of the blue lights from 2012 until last year, after the policy was dropped citing collision concerns.

The policy was created in 2012, after a report into the 7/7 bombings.

Speaking on the decision, Chair of the Transport Committee, Elly Baker, says: “TfL's ERU has a key role in London's emergency preparedness, and its vehicles need blue light status to support the safety and resilience of our transport network. The Committee wants this decision reversed and urges those behind it to provide the evidence that led to them revoking a vital part of the ERU's emergency response capability”.
